WHAT IS THE REFUGEE AGRICULTURE PROJECT?
For more than 75 years, North Dakota has welcomed newcomers from all over the world in partnership with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS). When refugees flee their countries for fear of persecution or violence, they leave nearly everything behind – their homes, their communities, and livelihoods that frequently include agriculture.
That's why LIRS North Dakota has launched the Refugee Agriculture Project. Garden beds are being built at Fargo's Village West Park where refugee households can grow their own healthy food, become more economically self-sufficient, and develop community connections. Each bed costs approximately $250 and supports one family.
